It took me a while to share this article as I wasn't sure if it was appropriate. I always thought I was setting the right example professionally, but now I feel it's time to talk about something I never realised before.
it's perfectly fine not to do anything for a few hours during the day. It's okay to just stand on the balcony and watch the birds. It's wonderful to spend time with the family and play an indoor game. It's okay to pick up the phone and talk to a friend you haven't spoken to in a while.
My life took a 360 degree turn during the pandemic. The biggest risk I took was to say goodbye to my full time job and pursue my dream of becoming an entrepreneur.
Apart from the joy of being my own boss, I experienced work-life balance and also enjoyed some me time.
Many of you reading this article must be wondering "I wish I could have at least one of the things that she's talking about", "she is living her dream life", "I wish I had taken that chance", etc.
Let me tell you, none of these changes are easy to accept when you are a workaholic.
During my employment years, I used to work long hours and felt spending an hour on leisure was a crime. But when I had to stay indoors during the lockdown, I went completely blank as I had nothing to do. I did not know how to pass my time. No wonder why my friends used to call me "busy lady", "workaholic", etc.
To keep myself occupied I took charge of all the household work right from A-Z while simultaneously undergoing a major transition in my professional life. I would engage in work right from the time I wake up till the time I hit the bed. Oops .. Sorry, no bed, COUCH. I would be dead tired by the end of the day and I did not need a bed to sleep; I could just collapse anywhere, even on the floor.
I realise that it's perfectly fine not to do anything for a few hours during the day. It's okay to just stand on the balcony and watch the birds. It's wonderful to spend time with the family and play an indoor game. It's okay to pick up the phone and talk to a friend you haven't spoken to in a while. In fact, you can do more constructive work when you learn how to spare some time out of your busy work life.
The biggest learning that I got during this pandemic is to live your life to the fullest. Aren't we privileged to have survived the pandemic? It's good to love your job but not to an extent that you miss out on the little things in life which bring happiness and peace. All you have to do is feel it and enjoy it because my friend, you ONLY HAVE ONE LIFE TO LIVE.
